Rob and Janee Hadley of Tandem Co. saw pictures of the Architect’s Table while it was being finished and inquired if I could make picture frames with a similar aesthetic to complement Rob’s amazing pen and ink drawings.

The simple elegance of the resulting frames belies the challenge in making them. Each frame is made from a single riftsawn board to ensure straight grain lines on the front and sides. Mitered dovetails at the corners provide strength while keeping the focus on the artwork from the front. A lap dovetailed rail at the rear of the frame adds rigidity and also serves as a French cleat to hang the frame simply and securely. A subtle burnished wax finish provides protection while keeping the look of natural wood.
